The Chicago Bears used an old school play action pass
concept against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. The play, as
described by Jon Gruden, is called “Trap Pass”. Below is a diagram of the play
from a Mike Martz playbook, out of a two back formation.
Instead of having the second running back run the seam
route, the bears used a tight end. The hard play fake from Cutler, and action
from the offensive line, lure the inside linebackers to the line of scrimmage. This
creates space for the tight end up the seam. The quick release from Cutler
allows the tight end to protect himself from the safety. The video links are
